I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it.
Art Education is incredibly valuable for children. It helps kids learn from their mistakes and be creative, improves visual analysis skills, and helps children make better critical judgements. The Art Center of Waco offers high-quality art education with our ongoing children's classes (Art Lab and Cookies & Coloring) and our newest initiative, the Art Expedition, a mobile art gallery, which travels to schools and public events.
We are excited to announce that we have expanded our Art Lab classes to include a second afternoon session so that more may attend this fabulous class. Morning classes will continue to be taught by Karen Alleman, our education coordinator and afternoon classes will be taught by Rebecca Edwards. The teachers will be collaborating so morning and afternoon sessions will cover the same material. Plan to register for either a morning (10-11:30 a.m.) or afternoon (1-2:30 p.m.) session. Art Lab is geared for elementary aged children K-6.
What is it? Art Lab is all about investigating art processes and materials. Featuring famous works of art, every 90-minute lesson begins by analyzing key elements and techniques behind these works. Young artists work through proper material use and studio procedures through demonstrations and put it all into practice by creating a relevant, open-ended product. Seek and nurture your child's creativity while exploring intriguing art materials in this exploratory class!
Please note that parents and guardians are welcome, but not required to stay during the class. Space is limited, and preregistration is recommended. Sign up soon!
Free Friday art history lessons - in collaboration with East Waco Library!
Cookies & Coloring is a free class (generously supported by our members and donors) geared for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Come enjoy an after school snack of cookies and spend time learning about a famous work of art. Each week, a Charlotte Mason-inspired interactive lesson is offered, highlighting an artist and one of their works. Close out your week with this fun and enriching free class!
